Tips For Taking Great Action Shots

Sports and action shots are some of the most difficult pictures to capture. Whether you’re using a compact, point and shoot camera or a DSLR, we have a few tips to help you take capture better photos.

1. Use a fast shutter speed. Using a faster shutter speed helps you take great action shots to create sharper images. Keep raising the shutter speed until your images are sharp and clear.
2. Use panoramic shots. Steady yourself to ensure a clean shot and pan across the activity. You’ll capture incredible shots of your child in action!
3. Take lighting into account. Lighting is important when capturing movement. If you’re photographing on a sunny day, you won’t experience any problems but if the light is fading or you’re indoors, raise your ISO or use your automatic flash.
4. Review the background. If there are distractions or something in the background you do not want in your photo, move around to improve the shot. You can also zoom in with a zoom lens to isolate the subject.
5. Take multiple shots. Shoot picture after picture! Not only will you capture many moments of activity, you can choose the best photos to print or share online.
6. Be ready. You never know when something really snap-worthy is going to happen so keep your camera handy.
7. Snap away! Hold down the camera’s shutter button or use the camera’s Continuous Mode function to catch images in rapid succession.
8. Read the manual provided with your camera to acquaint yourself with all the available features.
